Family and friends, see the following news and notes for October 2022-

Thank you- I want to thank the men, women and young adults who taught and served in our return to multiple Sunday School classes.  God blessed our 7 week study of “Kingdom Heroes” with Dr. Tony Evans and “The Book of Ruth” with Bianca Juarez Olthoff. The written and verbal reviews from   classes revealed the participants appreciation for both our return to break out classes and for those who volunteered to lead those classes.

Teacher Training- Calling all who want to serve as teachers. Join us for our first Christian Teacher Training of 2022 on Saturday, October 15th from 8:30am to 12:00pm in the sanctuary.  Continental breakfast will be provided.

Bible Studies- Join Pastor Fort in our new bible study series titled: “Joy For The Journey”- A verse by verse study through the book of Philippians. Bible study times are Tuesday evening from 7:00pm with our return to our midweek Bible study Wednesdays from 12:00pm to 1:00pm in the sanctuary.  Light refreshment will be provided following bible study.  Check Pastor Fort’s facebook pages for livestream options.

A Word On Missions- A big thank you to everyone who participated in our annual “Baby Bottle Campaign” in partnership with New Life Pregnancy Center.  The loose change, paper money and checks you gave to make a difference in the lives of children state wide totaled $875.94.  

Community Partnerships- In September 2022 we were blessed to share once again with Principal Erik and the children of Lindbergh Elementary School by gifting bicycles to children.  My prayer is that we will also be blessed to encourage the faculty and staff by supporting a year end event designed to encourage them.  

These above two projects are shared alongside other opportunities we have been blessed to share through our “benevolence ministry”.  

THANKS-giving Worship 2022- This years Thanksgiving Worship is Tuesday, November 22nd from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.  I am asking everyone to be present as thank and worship our God for His lovingkindness and tender mercies toward us.  Worship will include prayer, praise, testimonies and the preaching of God’s Word.  Come out and bring a friend.      

Church Anniversary- Our 33rd Church Anniversary is Sunday, December 11th, 2022.  We need your help on the planning committee.  If you are interested in joining the planning committee please join the sign up list today or contact the church office this week.  The planning committee will work with Pastor Fort and help lead us in our coming up with our theme, colors, guest speakers and more.

CHRISTmas 2022- CHRISTmas is on a Sunday this year!  How very exciting for us as followers of The LORD Jesus Christ.  Once again we are looking for volunteers to help shape this year’s CHRISTmas schedule and CHRISTmas Sunday morning worship.  Sign up in the lobby or call the church office to join the planning team.

WATCH-NIGHT WORSHIP- Watch Night worship 2022 is Saturday, December 31st.  Our classic worship time is 7:00pm to 9:00pm.  Help us plan this year’s Watch Night worship by signing up today.

FUN WITH THE FAMILY!- Some of our church family members will remember the party with a purpose we hosted a few years ago.  The celebration designed to thank our God for His many blessings while providing a safe and sanctified space to gather as a church family for a Christ-centered celebration and party. Ideas for this adult celebration include but are not limited to a live band, Christian comedy, great food, and space to welcome and care for your children with children’s ministry volunteers.  To share your ideas or join the planning team see Trustee LaTanya Davis today.  

32nd PASTOR APPRECIATION SUNDAY.  Sunday, October 30th, 2022 at 8:00am and 10:30am is Pastor Appreciation Sunday.  As we celebrate 32 years in ministry together I am asking every member that can to give at least $32.00 in appreciation of Pastor Sherman J. Fort.  Breaking that amount up over the five Sundays in the month of October comes to $6.40 per Sunday in addition to your regular giving.  Ways to give to Pastor Fort include but are not limited to the Sunday morning offering via giving envelope (note “pastor appreciation), electronic giving via the church app and website as well as cashapp @ $pastorsjf.  One of my goals with this year’s gift is to complete my office space with maximizing the space for my personal and church ministry needs.

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior, LORD and Life Giver King.  “Beloved, I pray above all things that you are prospering and in good health, even as your souls prosper.”  (3rd John verse 2).

Family, please receive and share the following updates, news, notes and ministry highlights.  

First, I thank our God for you always, in every prayer of mine, remembering our labor and love, your witness and work, our worship and more as the family of God.

Mission projects @ TWC-  Over the past several weeks we have been blessed to give hundreds of clothing items to those in need through our relationship with Casa De Amore in Mesa.  Thank you to everyone who donated gently used and new clothing to those in need.

The international mission project formerly known as Jamaica Outreach Ministries led by Rev. Estelle Walker hosted a fundraising event that raised one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) for local and international missions.  Thank you for your gifts.

In the final week of school, we partnered with Principal Eric Hedrick and Lindbergh Elementary School to donate a bicycle to a deserving student.  As Principal Hedrick, faculty and staff of Lindbergh begin to meet prior to the start of the new school year we will donate continental breakfast to their team.  More information on this is forthcoming.

Through the contribution and kindness of a Christian sister (who requested not to be named) we gave away Christian books and art work on a Sunday morning in June.  Just last Sunday, June 26, 2022 as we move to go digital in our sharing of books- more Christian books from our church office and Pastor Fort’s library as well as donations of hand sanitizer and more were given away.  Thank you to everyone who donated hand sanitizer and more.  

Community Engagement @ TWC-  
Friday, June 17th Pastor Fort, the band and singers from TWC served seniors at the Bridgewater Assisted Living facility in downtown Phoenix.  Pastor shared a word from God’s Word, our MD (Music Director) Anthony Kinchion along with our complete band and two singers performed/ministered to the residents and staff in celebration of  Juneteenth.  Several members of TWC came as well in support of residents and our church family.  

Tuesday, June 21, 2022 Pastor Fort and the TWC family hosted a “Conversation” in our sanctuary with City of Mesa Mayor John Giles, Mesa Police Chief Ken Cost, Lindbergh Elementary School Principal Erik Hedrick.  I want to thank those of you who came in person and others who watched it live online.  The question and answer time, conversation were informative, positive and productive for everyone present.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Saturday, July 9, 2022 from 8:30am to 10:00am Pastor Fort and TWC will host a special “Pastors Thank You Brunch” for all servant leaders and those desiring to lead in 2022 and beyond at the church.  This includes all music ministry/choir members and volunteers.  The brunch will take in the sanctuary.  RSVP by calling the church office today at: (480) 835-6320.  

Children’s Church- July marks the return of Children’s Church every Sunday at TWC.  Our children’s church volunteers took the month off for training with Minister Rosanna Taylor in the month of June.  Note the following:  1.  The children’s ministry space has been updated.  Come and check it out.  2.  We are asking that parents complete a current registration form for your child/children.  3.  We are requesting one parent of each child volunteer in Children’s Church one Sunday out of the year.  Children’s church will include worship, a bible lesson and a healthy snack.  Any questions please see Mikayla.  

Bible Study With Pastor Milton Pleasant & The Willow Grove B.C. Family:
Bible study for Tuesday, June 28, 2022 has been canceled.  Pastor Fort has been invited to participate in a Christian Conversation with Pastor Milton Pleasant and the Willow Grove B.C. located at 3802 E. University Dr., Phoenix, AZ. 85034 family Tuesday, June 28th from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.  Pastor Fort is asking everyone to join the bible in person or virtually via their church Zoom link.  The Zoom link will be shared via our church office or by visiting the Willow Grove Church facebook page.  The subject of the conversation is: “Is God Pro-Choice or Pro-Life”?  Pastor’s Bible study will resume next Tuesday evening.  

Graduation And Ordination Sunday @ TWC-  New member graduation celebration and Ordination of Rev. Pierre Singfield and Deacon Roosevelt Thompson will take place Sunday, July 3, 2022 at 10:30am worship.  Do your best to join us for this special SON-Day.

Welcome “TYRA THE CREATIVE” To TWC Virtually.  We have a new announcement service.  Let’s welcome Tyra The Creative to our TWC family.  Tyra is a Christian Creative, actress and entrepreneur.  Tyra resides in southern California.  Tyra provides a fresh, new voice to our weekly announcements.  I look forward to our relationship growing and developing in new and fresh ways.  Look for “Tyra The Creative” online via Youtube, her website and other social media pages.  

Family, continue  to join us live in worship each Sunday morning at 8:00am and 10:30 am, for Bible studies and Spiritual growth opportunities from 9:30am to 10:15am beginning August 2022 in the Sanctuary, Mercy, Grace and Koinonia rooms as well as the church office, conference room and Pastor’s office spaces.  

Keep our upcoming improvement projects to our outdoor Pergola (which include a professionally installed cover, fans and side covers for the Pergola.  These improvements will give us year round use of the Pergola and a place to greet and host guests as well as assist with our commitment to utilizing our facility as a Christian event location.

Greetings in the name of God our Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit.  “I pray this communication finds each of you prospering and in good health, even as your souls prosper”.

Family, please note the following exciting and most important news and notes:

First I thank and praise our God for each and every, single one of you.  Know that you are loved and thought of today by God and prayed for by The LORD Jesus Christ Himself!  You are also loved, thought of and prayed for by me as your Pastor today.

Second, I am so very excited to see so many of us returning to in person worship.  As the protocols connected to the pandemic are adjusted in accordance with the latest reports of the virus slowing in our country and around the world I thank and praise our God for His loving-kindness toward us.  Your personal presence in the house of God makes a huge difference.  For all of you who join us online both prior to and since the pandemic I am so very thankful for each of you as well.

Third, I want to thank God for the children, youth, dance and mime ministries and everyone who participated with special presentations during our celebrating God in Black HIStory Month!  To every member and guest- Thank you!

Fourth- Our church is in a state of transition.  Our goal is to live out our motto, mission statement and ministry theme with a refreshed commitment as Pastor and people.  Our motto: “To Learn God’s Word, Love God’s Word and Live God’s Word”; our mission statement: “To Know Christ And To Make Him Known” and our ministry theme:  “One Voice, One Vision, One Victory” help to communicate the over-arching aim of our church.

As we seek to grow deeper in faith, family and fellowship several goals come to mind.  They include but are not limited to the following:  1.  Connecting afresh with each family/household and person in our church with the goal of establishing relationship for the purpose of Kingdom growth.  2.  Identifying and determining who our current, volunteer ministry leaders and volunteers are.  3.  Connecting with every leader and volunteer for the purpose of training each one for work in the Kingdom.  4.  Hosting two significant and necessary member events.  First a thank you fellowship for those who work in ministry.  Next an information and education training day for those who serve as leaders.  5.  Returning to our Annual Church Conference Meeting.  Here we will share management, membership, ministry, missions and money reports as well as share in a time of vision casting going forward.  6.  We will continue our process of planning and programming ministry events for 2022.  Events and subjects will include:  our annual church revival, Resurrection/Easter Sunday celebration, Christian financial management, Women in ministry month, Men in ministry month, a church family retreat, reinstituting our annual church picnic, Thanks-GIVING and CHRISTmas celebrations and more.  

As we move forward with these projects our goal is to take full advantage of the resources currently used to manage our online presence and church office management tools as well to the fullest.  

As we update everything in our office from our phone lines to our church management software system we will keep you posted with regular updates.  In the end our goal is to simplify our systems and use every avenue to connect with the world in sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.  

Family, please know that I am requesting, asking for your help and more specifically that you commit afresh to sharing the unique gifts and talents our God has given to grow His people and specifically the body of believers at TWC.

It all begins with prayer and proceeds forward with learning, loving and living out God’s Word together. We need your help and support.  

Our Annual Revival is scheduled for Sunday, April 10th through Tuesday, April 12th, 2022.  This year's PASSION WEEK REVIVAL will begin Sunday morning at our 8:00am and 10:30am worship services and begin in earnest Sunday evening through Tuesday eveing at 7:00pm.  Our guest evangelist, this year is Rev. Dr. Claybon Lea Jr., Senior Pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church, with two locations in Fairfield CA. and Suisun City, CA. Dr. Lea released his first gospel music project titled: “It’s About Time” in 2011.

Post Script:  Family, as our nation begins afresh to emerge from the Covid-19 virus and our church continues to see the return of worshippers I am reminded that the church is an ongoing, unending work that is both right and righteous.  That said, I want to share with you in this post script that I both need and am in the process of planning some personal time away to give “heed to myself” and to the flock over which The Holy Spirit has made me overseer, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.”  -(Acts 20:28 NKJV).  I will share more in the next few days.

RE:YEAR-END NOTES AND NEW YEAR NEWS- MY MOST IMPORTANT LETTER TO DATE
 
Brothers and Sisters, I pray this letter finds you prospering and in good health, even as your souls prosper.  (3rd John, verse 2).
 
This letter comes to share important year-end notes and New Year news with you.  I am asking that each member and friend take the time to read this letter in full and to join me in prayer as we move forward.
 
I thank and praise our God for your witness and work in the Kingdom of God through these pandemic years of 2020 and 2021.
 
Never before have so many people simultaneously looked for the answers to their agonies, the eraser for their errors, the faith needed for their future and the direction necessary to live every day for the glory of God and good of others than right now.
 
As we plan and prepare to move forward in ministry and sharing the message of Jesus Christ I am writing this letter to call us together for a season of prayer and fasting, planning and strategizing, a time of writing the vision and making it plain so that we as followers of Christ can work His plan for His people at The Word Church.  
 
Join me as I ask God to guide, lead and direct me as His servant leader with faith, boldness and clarity as guided by The Holy Spirit.
 
January 2022 will be our annual season of prayer and fasting intended to help us learn, love and live God’s Word in a fresh and refreshing way.  
 
This will be a time of refreshing, renewal, reimagining, reigniting and revival for me as Pastor, those who serve in leadership and our entire church family.
 
To this end all bible studies except those lead by Pastor Fort will cease for the month of January.  
 
The pandemic along with other cultural shifts have placed our world in a state of disorientation.  In January we will seek to reconnect, remember and re-boot if you will our relationship afresh with The LORD Jesus Christ.
 
This begins with a time of refreshing that involves pushing the “reset” button on our faith and focusing on connecting.    
 
It then moves to a time of renewal where we will reimagine our structure for the 2022 and beyond.  Specifically asking questions such as:  What are we doing right?  What are we doing wrong?  Where should we make changes?  What changes should those be?  What do we need to stop doing?  What do we need to start doing? Etc.  
 
Finally, we will move and adjust in every practical way that we can and should to reach the world for Christ.  We will do this with a particular focus on Senior Saints as well as Baby Boomers (1946 -1964), Generation X (1965-1980, Millennial’s (1981 – 1995), Generation Z (1996-2010 and Generation Alpha (2011-2025).  
 
January will be a time of teaching, training, planning, preparing, programming and a renewal of commitment for persons desiring to serve in 2022 and beyond.  Our meeting times will be announced.
 
A closing special request.  I shared two Sunday’s ago my vision to have our church and lobby painted between the week of December 26, 2021.  We will worship in the newly painted sanctuary for the first time at Watch Night 2021/2022.  The goal amount is $2,500.00.  I am asking 25 people to join me in making a one time sacrificial donation of $100.00 over and above your tithe to help cover the cost of material and labor for this project.  Please call the office and share your commitment.  My goal is to have all monies collected by the end of worship, Sunday, December 26, 2021.

Update on construction on Stapley Drive in front of the church. The first layer of asphalt in front of the church was completed on December 13th. The project is scheduled for completion May-June, 2022 with the last months consisting primarily of landscape work.
 
Dates to remember:  

• CHILDREN’S CHRISTmas Program:  Sunday, December 19th is the Children’s program at TWC.  The program will take place during the Sunday school hour.  Santa Claus will be present to take pictures with the children and families.  
• CHRISTmas morning worship is canceled:  In light of the construction on Stapley Drive and the day after CHRISTmas being a Sunday, our annual CHRISTmas morning worship is canceled this year.  I am asking every one to have a time of worship and prayer to include the reading of the birth of Christ from your bible at home.
• WATCH NIGHT WORSHIP:  Watch Night Worship is Friday, December 31, 2021 from 10:00pm to Midnight.  This will be a joint worship service with the following pastors and the churches they serve:  Pastors Fredrick L. Fairley Sr., Pastor Milton Pleasant, Pastor Thomas E. Wiggins, Pastor Larry Gooden and Rev. Roland Pierce.

RE:CHILDREN’S FUNDAY SUNDAY/HALLELUJAH PARTY

Greetings in the name of God our Father, Jesus Christ our Savior and The Holy Spirit our constant, company keeper.  Family, I pray this letter finds you prospering and in good health, even as your souls prosper.

The purpose of this letter is to clarify and call every family and even more pointedly every child between the age of four years and 12 years to be at church this Sunday for “Funday Sunday/Hallelujah Party”.

This Sunday, October 31st, from 10:00am to 12:00pm on the parking lot and south lot of our church property we are hosting all children between the ages of 4 years and 12 years to come out for a party with a purpose.

As we continue our goal to Rebuild, Reignite And Reimagine the church we are remembering our children and how very important they are to the Kingdom of God and TWC in particular.

THIS SUNDAY’S “Funday Sunday/Hallelujah Party” is for your children, your grandchildren and all past and present TWC children.  The day will consist of games, prizes, a costume contest (all children are asked to dress as their favorite Bible character), food and more.  

Volunteers are needed this Sunday morning.  I am asking all former children’s ministry volunteers and any adults and grandparents with a willing heart who have been fully vaccinated to show up this Sunday and volunteer your time for just two hours to serve God’s children as we celebrate them!  We need your help.

Finally, for every member of TWC we are asking you to donate candy for our children and/or store bought cookies or cakes for the cake-walk.  Please have those donations to the church no later than 9:45am Sunday, October 31st, 2021.

Brothers and Sisters, I pray this message finds you prospering and in good health, even as your souls prosper.  

Please note and share the following most important and exciting updates with respect to our church and ministry.  I want to begin by thanking you for praying with and for me as I traveled to Northern California for the home going celebration of Mother Alice Whitehurst.  God blessed me to go and return by His grace, mercy and love.  

Pastor Anniversary:  Sunday, October 24th we will celebrate at 8:00am, 9:30am and 10:30am we will celebrate the 31st Pastor Anniversary and Appreciation.  Our special guest for the weekend is the uniquely gifted Rev. Dr. Louis B. Jones II, senior pastor of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Washington, DC.  I am asking every member to be in worship that Sunday throughout the day.  Dr. Jones will be accompanied by his wife Lady Michelle Jones.  In keeping with my initial request I am asking every member to give a minimum of $1.00 for each year of service to Pastor Fort in appreciation of his work and service.   Read afresh the following Scriptures:  

1^st Thessalonians 5:12-13 The Message Bible)-
^12-13 And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love!

The 32nd Church Anniversary:  Sunday, December 5th we will praise God for 32 years of church life.  Canaan Missionary Baptist Church (aka The Word Church) held our first worship service on Sunday, December 10, 1989.  The church began with 16 charter members including youth and children.  Over the years our God has grown His church and for this we are grateful.  Help us plan and then participate in a wonderful time of anniversary celebration this December.  Our hope is to complete a video montage that captures various moments in the life of our church covering the past three decades.  The celebration will include special guest speakers, psalmists, food and much more.   I am asking every member to give a special offering, in addition to our regular tithe and offering of $100.00 for our church anniversary.   Remember what Jesus said about His church

Calling all men.  This Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 8:00am to 9:00am Pastor Fort is asking every, adult male in our church to meet in the sanctuary for a monthly time of discussion, discovery and discipleship.  This is a most important time for every man.  This is an in person discipleship time only.  It will not be available online.  

A closing appeal from Pastor Fort:  In keeping with our current theme of “Rebuilding, Reigniting And Reimagining The Church” based on the book of Nehemiah and additional Scriptures my first request is that each of you join me in prayer and personal participation in church life here at TWC.  

I continue to be challenged as I see so many of us out and about in the community and yet not come to church.  Brothers and Sisters, I am not asking you to not take Covid seriously.  We should all be  safe and sensible when it comes to protecting ourselves and our loved ones (especially our children) from the Covid virus and beyond.  I am however simply sharing in love that you're in person presence makes a difference.  While worship online is an option it is not the best option.  

There is something dynamic and intentional from our God when He calls us together to worship Him as a local body of believers.  To this end I request that those of you who can consider coming to worship in person and let’s praise God together.  Your presence makes the difference.

Consider the following Scripture-  
Hebrews 10:25 (New Living Translation)-
25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Finally, allow me to share that shortly after the pandemic started I personally began making phone calls to each household on our church membership list.  I requested our deacons (congregational care teams) do the same.

I learned a number of things in the process. I discovered that many members that I called had moved out of state some prior to the pandemic.  I also discovered how appreciative so many of you were when you received a call from Pastor Fort or one of our deacons.  

Like every other church we remain in consistent “catch up” mode in our desire to get and remain connected.  Our efforts include: U.S. mail, electronic notifications via our church app, website, text messaging, e-notifications, live and archived worship services on all of our social media pages, etc.  If you are gifted in the area of connection contact me at the church office today.  I welcome hearing from you.  Have a blessed and beautiful day.

Please note the following exciting things taking place at The Word Church. Free COVID-19 Vaccinations start next week. TWC is partnering with Rapid Reliable Testing (MD1) and offering FREE Covid-19 vaccinations. These free vaccinations are open to anyone who wants them including those concerned about their documentation status.

Testing will begin Friday, July 23rd from 3:00pm to 5:00pm and Saturday, July 24th, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. Testing will continue each Friday and Saturday until further notice. The team from Rapid Reliable Testing are committed to serve everyone in line before shutting down for the day. Please help me spread the word to both our congregation and community at large.

The month of August marks our first ever Fall Faith & Fitness Focus. Throughout the month of August we will focus on our Spiritual fitness with particular emphasis on the areas of faith, finance, mental and physical health. Various members of TWC along with special guests will lead us in a variety of conference style conversations, teaching and provide tools designed to help us move forward as people of faith in these major areas in life. Events will take place both in person and virtually.

New minister and associate minister training will resume in the month of August. Training will be offered both virtually and in person. Information on date and time will be available soon. Call the church office for more information and register to attend. This training is for all gospel preachers.

Family, it is my privilege to serve as President of The Ministers Conference for the Paradise Missionary Baptist State Convention of Arizona. Rev. Amos Lewis serves as President of the convention. As president of the ministers conference a team of Pastors and I are planning our first Pastor, Preachers and People Conference. The date for the conference is Friday, October 22nd at 7:00pm and Saturday, October 23rd, 2021 from 8:30am to 1:30pm. The Word Church will host this in person and virtual event at our facility.

Finally, remember our Sunday morning worship schedule is 8:00am and 10:30am with bible teaching from 9:30am to 10:15am. Three classes are offered for youth and young adults. Children’s classes will not be offered until clearance has been given for children under the age of 12 to be vaccinated in the United States.

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST.  I pray this letter finds you prospering and in good health, even as your souls prosper.  

Mother’s Day 2021 at TWC was a blessing!  Let me begin with a sincere “Thank You” to everyone who helped to make Mother’s Day 2021 special at The Word Church.

We are officially back to in person worship with safety measures in place.  I am asking every member who can do so safely to be present this Sunday at 8:00am and 10:30am for in person worship and 9:30am for our Bible study time.  Please let us know that you are coming by registering online via the church website, church app or by calling the office.  Our sign in sheet prior to entering the church and safety protocols will be in effect until we are cleared to remove them.  Ways to worship with us include:  In person, Live Stream, YouTube, Facebook live and now via AM radio from your car when you park within range from the sanctuary.  You can also listen via our Podcast on Podomatic.

Monday Manna Bible study walking through The Seven Churches of Asia Minor from the book of Revelation chapters two and three with Pastor Fort is nearly half way complete.  We will resume Monday, May 24th with our study on The Church of Sardis from Rev. 3:1-6 and the church of Philadelphia, Rev. 3:7-13.  We will conclude this study Monday, May 31st with the Church of Laodicea, Rev. 3:14-22.  Our study time is 10:00am on facebook live via the church facebook page.   Monday Manna bible study will conclude in earnest following the completion of this study.

Tuesday evening in-person bible study with Pastor Fort will resume following the completion of our current study in the book of Philippians with Rev. Kevin Swindle. Look for information on our new Tuesday evening bible study coming soon.

Our in person Wednesday, noon bible study through the book of Genesis resumed this week.  What a joy it was to be back in person.  Join us as we conclude Genesis chapter 15 and Genesis chapter 16.  The bible study will continue to be on facebook live as well.

Through the pandemic God has blessed us to baptize new believers, dedicate babies back to The God and most recently to have new members join TWC.  To this end in person, new member orientation class will resume Sunday, June 6, 2021 during the Sunday School hour from 9:30am to 10:15am. 

Our music ministry conference and workshop with special guest Clinician Arthur “Buddy” Strong II is underway.  The workshop takes place each Saturday in the month of May at 2:00pm at the church.  Our guest vocal instructor is Minister Robert Body.  Allow me to testify that week one was beautiful.  I am asking all members of the music ministry to be present as well as anyone considering joining the music ministry. Please come prayed up, expecting a move from The Lord and arrive fifteen minutes prior to our start time.  All, Buddy has my full and complete confidence.  He and he alone is our guest Clinician.  As with past guest Clinicians let’s continue to give him the respect and love he deserves.  All questions, etc. should go to Buddy and Buddy alone.  

Thank you for giving! I want to thank those of you who responded and continue to respond to my request for a special offering in support of our church.  As I shared prior our giving recently has been at an all time low for a number of months.  Know that I personally understand the challenges and struggles that we all have been presented with during this pandemic. Yet and still our church operates on a “free will” giving system commonly called tithe and offering.  This means that we are not supported by government programs nor subsidized by any such program as it relates to how we receive financial.  I am asking every member of our church that can to give regularly as God directs you.  

Calling all members and servant leaders of TWC to join me   Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 8:30am in the church sanctuary for a church update and vision meeting.  This meeting will not be available online.  It is an in person meeting only unique to our church family.  The meeting will include break out sessions and more.  The estimated meeting time is two hours.

Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9, 2021 is just three weeks away.  And this Mother’s Day comes with the added bonus of being our official Return to in person worship at 8:00am and 10:30am with a special time celebrating Mothers from 9:30am to 10:15am.  

Our Mother’s Day Theme for 2021 is:  “Pearls Of Wisdom”, Proverbs 1:8-9. Our color palette is pastel.  Our request is that you are present in person or online and that you participate by sharing a picture of your mother along with her name that will be presented in a special video presentation on Mother’s Day.  If using a smart phone please take your picture in landscape mode.  All pictures should be sent to Reverend Kevin Swindle no later than Wednesday, May 5th, 2021 via email at: kevin.swin@me.com.  

In addition to our in-person worship inside of the sanctuary, limited seating will be available beneath our newly constructed pergola on the south side of the sanctuary, complete with a screen for those who wish to socially distance outside.  All social distancing practices are in place. The faucets men’s and women’s restrooms are touchless as well.  Please wear your mask before entering the building. 

Care for children accompanying their Mother to worship will be provided exclusively at the 10:30am worship service, in the Grace and Mercy Rooms with a special Mother’s Day lesson and activity designed especially for them.  The Hope Room will be available to nursing moms.  This room offers privacy for nursing moms while allowing them to watch and listen to worship and seating with Gliders/Rockers in place.  The Hope Room has limited seating.  It is available on a first come, first serve basis.  

A special time of sharing and celebration for all mothers will take place between worship services from 9:30am to 10:15am in the sanctuary with additional seating available beneath the pergola.

Two important things.  First, our Passion Week Revival 2021 is almost here.  Our guest evangelists are:  Rev. Dr. E. Dewey Smith, Jr., Senior Pastor of House of Hope Church in Atlanta, GA., Rev. Dr. MarQuerita Story, senior Pastor, New Hope B.C. and Impact Christian Center, New York, Rev. Eric Archer, Staff Pastor, Friendship Baptist Church, Yorba Linda, CA. and Rev. Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III, Friendship West Baptist Church, Dallas, TX.

Our guest Musical Director (MD) for our Passion Week 2021 Revival is none other than the God-fearing, faith filled, gifted and good friend of Pastor Fort and TWC/CMBC Arthur Strong II.  “Buddy” as he is affectionately called served as minister of music at CMBC several years ago.  Our church relationship with Arthur Strong II goes back to just after the church was started and we worshipped in just one half of the MCT Board of Realtors building at 1363 S. Vineyard Road in Mesa, AZ. His love for Jesus our Master and Messiah, his passion for music (gospel music most especially) and his heart for God’s church is who Arthur Strong II truly is.  

I cannot express my personal appreciation for Arthur, the Strong family at large and most certainly Bishop Arthur Strong I (in heaven) and Lady Strong.  Buddy, thank you for sharing your gift and calling with us as our always member and forever loved friend. 

All, we are having a fun, online contest for our TWC and online viewers with a monetary gift as the prize.  You will have to tune in each evening to participate and win.  

Next, the TWC outdoor, parking lot event with live music beneath the Pergola, food, games for children and more has been postponed.  The City of Mesa requires that we have the permit for our event submitted by a certain date.  To this end we are now planning for this event several weeks from now.  My thanks to Sis. Brenda Thacker, Bro, Gary and others for working diligently on this event.   

Finally, remember our commitment to acknowledge and appreciate the leadership of Sis. Angie Jackson who has led the TWC praise team for some time now.  We will give her a special recognition this Sunday morning.

First, thank you to everyone who participated in our “28 Days of Prayer & Fasting” in the month of February 2021.  I pray you were encouraged as we studied God’s Word together with our 2021 Prayer & Fasting Guide and our Monday Morning Manna bible study time.  

We would love to hear how God has spoken to you in the month of February.  Consider sharing a 1-minute video of your February Prayer & Fasting testimony with us in the next two weeks.  Place your camera on landscape mode (sideways), greet us and share your 1-minute testimony.  Then, contact the church office for the link on where to send your video.  

• Our Passion Week Virtual Revival!  Sunday, March 28th through Tuesday, March 30th, 2021 we will host our first ever Virtual Revival.  Revival service will be from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.  Our guest evangelists include:  Rev. Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III, Dallas Texas and Rev. Dr. MarQuerita Story, New York/Pennsylvania.  We will share who our third guest preacher is once they have been confirmed.  Pray that God moves in a mighty way.  Participate by spreading the word about revival.  Be present personally each evening as we look to hear from God.  
  
  
• Church Family & Friends Day!  Saturday, April 10, 2021 we are hosting a safe, secure and straight fun outdoor event at the church.  The event will include evangelism (sharing Christ and offering prayer), live music beneath our newly constructed Pergola, guest gospel artist and rapper Derek Collins, games and activities for children and families, food trucks, distributing food boxes and more.  The time of the event will be shared soon.  Volunteers are needed.  To help coordinate or to volunteer please contact the church office today at (480) 835-6320.  
  
  
• Virtual Leadership Meeting.  Saturday, March 6, 2021 all ministry leaders are asked to attend our virtual leadership meeting from 7:45am to 8:45am via Zoom.  Check our church leadership app and your email for the Zoom link 24 hours prior to our meeting time.
  
  
• Our Return To In-Person Church Survey.  Church family, in anticipation of our eventual return to in-person worship following clearance to do so from the appropriate authorities I am asking that every member complete our electronic survey.  The survey is short but so very important for me to hear from you personally.  The survey is available now HERE, on the church website, church app and is being sent via email as well.  The survey is anonymous.  Thank you.  
  
  
• Getting serious about the ministry of Social Media & More.  I am excited to announce that we have formally secured the services of the Reverend Eric Archer, II!  I have utilized the gifts and talents of Rev. Archer in small ways in the past, Rev. Archer is now joining our church team virtually from his home state of California.  Rev. Archer is a full-time employee at the Friendship Baptist Church of Yorba Linda, CA, Rev. Dr. Kenneth C. Curry Jr., senior pastor.  Rev. Archer will be assisting us and helping us grow through the management of our church website, church app, growth via social media and more.  Rev. Archer will formally begin working with us March 1st, 2021.  A special time of virtually meeting and greeting with Rev. Archer will take place soon.  
  
  
• New church phone system.  Family, we will purchase a new phone system in the coming weeks.  This is a long overdue purchase as our current phone system is simply no longer meeting our needs.  The new system will allow us to better connect with guests and one another.  
  
  
• With a grateful heart for her compassion, care, concern and love for our children and youth I share the news that Minister Rosanna Taylor’s personal and professional schedule will no longer allow her to serve as the children as our children and youth pastor.  Rosanna is committed to staying in position and in place until we find a new person for this role.  Please join me in thanking Rosanna for her excellent service to our God and His children and youth at TWC/CMBC.

A special note- In the past three weeks I have met the new principal at Lindbergh Elementary School east of our church.  We have renewed our commitment to encourage the faculty and staff of Lindbergh Elementary School as well as to encourage children on a quarterly basis at the school as part of our commitment to community engagement and service.  We will be calling on you for your help and support.

The special music project I recently mentioned in a special video announcement will prayerfully be completed in the next several weeks.  I have asked my friend and Brother Arthur “Buddy” Strong, Jr. to lead this special project and vision of professionally produced, gospel music videos that God has allowed me to have.  The project will include both classic and modern/contemporary gospel music that will benefit our church family during the remaining months of the pandemic and for years to come.  My vision is that non-members, members and Christian friends from various backgrounds will participate in this project to include our own music ministry team at TWC/CMBC.  Join me in prayer over this project and ask God to use it for His glory.

RE: MONTHLY LETTER FOR JANUARY 2021

Greetings in the name of God The Father, Jesus Christ The son and God The Holy  Spirit. I pray this letter finds you prospering and in good health even as your souls  prosper.

Let me begin by saying “Happy New Year” to each of you. My prayer for you today is  that you will experience all that our good and gracious God has for you.  

First, our annual time of Prayer and Fasting this year will take place next month February 2021. We will participate in 28 Days of Prayer and Fasting with a focus on  building our faith in God. Our 28 Days of Prayer and Fasting booklet will be available  Sunday, January 24, 2021 in hard copy, online at the church website and social media pages as well as in PDF, printable format.

Second, I am requesting that every teenager and parent in your household join me on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 6:00pm via The Word Church AZ Facebook page for a  special conversation on college education. Our live conversation will focus first and  foremost on aiding our young people on free, financial resources to include full ride  scholarships to both local Community Colleges as well as Arizona State University.  Information on specific programs of study a post-pandemic Black College Tour and potential in state Black College Fair in the fall/winter of this year will be provided.  Students and parents I am asking that you log into our Zoom call and also take part in  the conversation with some students joining me online and in view of those watching.  Special guests include Kiana Sears, the first African American elected to the City of  Mesa School Board and representative of ASU Faith Based Educational Outreach and  our own Sis. Nichole Neal, Community College Professor and student advocate.

Third, be sure to join us each Sunday morning at 8:00am and 10:30am for live  worship service and again at 9:30am to 10:15am for a special time in studying God’s  Word and unique conversations with special guests, church family members and friends  of the ministry.  

Finally, I am asking those of you who are willing to serve to help with the planning  of TWC/CMBC sanctified, safe, sanitized and socially distanced outdoor  celebration on the grounds of TWC/CMBC, Palm Sunday weekend on Saturday,  March 27, 2021. Imagine live music under the pergola, a Christian DJ on the far south  lot, food trucks, games for children of all ages, spades, gin rummy, chess and other  game contests complete with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes, free food boxes for those in  need and more. On Sunday, March 28, 2021 we will have our first in-person worship service. Following prayer, faith and the climate of our state and country as it relates to the current  Covid-19 crisis we will determine whether or not our Palm Sunday morning celebration  will be inside or outside.  

Finally, I am asking that each of us remain diligent with our commitment to following the  healthy guidelines with respect to combating the virus. Continue in prayer for yourself,  your family and world. Ask God to use us for His glory and our good.  

Stay in touch with your Brothers and Sisters in Christ, encouraging them in their walk  with The Lord. To every member and friend of TWC/CMBC know that your financial  giving is both appreciated and very much needed. Please continue to give as God  directs you through this ministry.

Let me begin by praising our God for His continued love, mercy and grace and thanking you for your faithful commitment to our God and His people that make up the community that is CMBC/TWC.  To every individual and family who has experienced the transition of a loved one from earth to eternity know that Pastor Fort and our church family is praying for you.

1.  Celebrating 30 years of pastoral service:  I am asking every church family member and friend to join me in celebrating the 30th Pastoral Anniversary.  Service times are:  Sunday, September 20th at 8:00am and 10:30am, Tuesday, September 22nd at 5:30pm on Zoom will include various pastor friends; and Sunday September 27th at 8:00am and 10:30am.  Special guests include:  Rev. 2. Church Facility Updates:  Our church facility is receiving its first external paint job since construction was completed.  The paint job is scheduled to be complete in the next several weeks.  Next, the grass area immediately south of the sanctuary is being converted.  The grass area will be replaced with concrete and a pergola erected in its place.  The pergola will include two fans and will cover a space of approximately 40 feet by 22 feet.  This project has begun and is scheduled for completion in the next several weeks.  This space gives our ministry much needed outside space that will be utilized in a variety of ways to help us facilitate ministry.                                                                                                                                           
3. Our Wedding Plan Update:  Our wedding date is set.  Sis. Tiffani Davis and I will wed Sunday, October 11, 2020.  We are busy finalizing details for our intimate, wedding ceremony.  In light of international restrictions and safety protocol regarding the covid-19 pandemic the wedding ceremony will be intimate, adhere to all safety regulations and include just a few people.  That said, Tiffani and I formally and officially request the honor of our you, our church family to join us virtually as the ceremony is set to be streamed online.  By choosing the unique service we have chosen we are able to extend the invitation to all of you attend AND participate in the service with us live online.  More information on the exact time, how to join us live online, etc. will be provided soon.  For now please keep the afternoon of Sunday, October 11, 2020 open.  And more than that lease keep us in your prayers.  We are praying for you.

Greetings in the name of our living LORD and Savior Jesus Christ, God our Father and God The Holy Spirit our constant, company keeper.  I pray this letter finds you prospering and in good health, even as your soul prospers.

Brothers and Sisters, I want to begin with a personal update regarding the upcoming marriage of Pastor Fort and Sis. Tiffani Davis.  The date has not changed but because of the global COVID crisis the location has.  The new location has not been determined.  It will be an intimate, safe and secure ceremony.  We will follow this with a time of celebration as soon as it is safe to do so.

TWC FACILITY COVID READINESS UPDATE:  Several new, non-contact, temperature check devices have been acquired.  These will be utilized prior to entering the church facility.  Thank you, Trustee/Deacon Bill Warren, for your help with this.

• All new, touchless hand sanitizer stations have been installed throughout the church facility.  This includes restrooms, children’s rooms and the church office space. 
• Signs that communicate our commitment to safety as well as the personal responsibility of every person entering the church facility will be posted in the next several days. 
• Both in-house and specific, professional cleaning of the church directly connected to the COVID virus will continue.  This will continue once we return to in-person worship until the pandemic is over. 

COMMUNION:  Communion is part of the first Sunday, online worship service.  I am asking everyone to commune together each First Sunday via one of our live stream formats to include- our YouTube, Live Stream and Facebook Live outlets.  If you need the elements (bread and juice) for Communion you may pick those up at the church office Monday through Thursday from 9:00am to 2:00pm or Sunday morning by driving to the church and meeting one of our Deacons in the parking lot between 7:30am and 10:30am Sunday morning.  They will safely hand the elements to you.

SENIOR SAINTS!  Do you need a tablet to help view and interact with your church family?  If you are unable to participate in our Sunday morning online worship and all other activities Monday through Saturday because you do not have the necessary devise, please contact the church office today.  We are committed to providing both a tablet and training on how to use it to you.

UTILIZING ZOOM AT TWC.  In order to assist Pastor Fort, bible teachers and ministry leaders with connecting with you via Zoom in a safe and secure way we have contracted with Zoom to provide a number of secure, customizable and secure Zoom meeting rooms. This purchase removes the need for leaders to use their personal Zoom pages and the monthly coast associated with that.  It also helps us in many other ways as well.  Training on this for leaders in need will take place in the next several days.

OUR FIRST LIVE VIRTUAL CONFERENCE!  Saturday, August 22, from 8:30am to 10:30am SJF Ministries and TWC will host our first Live, Virtual Conference.  This Developing Dedicated Disciple Makers Conference will include plenary and break-out sessions.  Guest and in-house facilitators/panelists for this conference include but are not limited to Pastor Fort, Rev. Mayon Neal, Rev. Dr. Fredrick L. Fairley Sr., Pastor Milton Pleasant and Rev. Edmond Brown III.  I am asking every ministry leader, Sunday School and bible teacher, associate minister and church member to register for this conference.  Registration information coming soon.

CHURCH BEAUTIFICATION, MAINTENANCE AND UPDATES:  During the COVID crisis Pastor Fort and our trustee team are taking this time to complete necessary facility maintenance needs as well as some very exciting improvements and additions to our church facility.  All of this is being done as first, good stewards of God’s house and second in preparation for our soon return to in-person corporate worship and ministry at The Word Church.  We can’t wait to get it all done and welcome all of our family back!

A WORD ON CHURCH FINANCES:  Our giving while consistent has fluctuated since the beginning of COVID 19.  While we began very well there has been a recent drop in giving of late.  Unfortunately we experience a drop of some sort each summer as members travel and vacation avoiding the summer heat in metropolitan Phoenix each year.  As pastor, I first want to say “THANK YOU” for giving to the work of The LORD at TWC.  Next, I am asking every individual and every family to continue or begin if you have not already to give through TWC on a regular basis.

By the grace of God and your generosity during this pandemic we have been able to assist members of our congregation during times of need, to help our native brothers and sisters at the Navajo Nation via the water project and feed the homeless in metropolitan Phoenix via the Phoenix Rescue Mission.  Our annual Baby Bottle campaign which supports infants and children in foster care is coming.  We will also continue to support the faculty, staff and students of Lindbergh Elementary School as well.  

PASTOR ANNIVERSARY:  As pastor I am excited to announce that the pastor anniversary will take place this year.  While pastor appreciation/anniversary has not happened recently it will this year.  In the midst of COVID we will have the Pastor Anniversary celebration.  The dates for this celebration are Sunday, September 20th and Sunday September 27th 2020.  The celebration will include guest preachers and more.  My prayer is that you will join me in thanking God for 30 plus years as pastor and people serving our good and gracious God together.  If you desire to serve on the pastor anniversary committee contact me, Trustee Vernon Ennels Jr. and the members of our trustee team.

Greetings in the saving and all sufficient name of God our Father, our living LORD and Savior Jesus Christ and God The Holy Spirit.  I pray this letter finds you and yours prospering and in good health, even as your soul prospers.

Brothers and Sisters, first I want to thank our God for you.  Know that you are loved, prayed for and thought of today by your pastor. 

Our desire as pastor and people is to learn God's Word, love God's Word and live God's Word.  Because of your continued giving and generous financial contributions we have been blessed to emphasize the living of God’s Word as we assist families in our church with essential needs as well as those who have lost loved ones during their time of bereavement.  Thank you for giving.

Next, I want to thank everyone who prayed for and participated in our Navajo Nation water project during the COVID-19 crisis.  Literally within minutes of our Facebook live video recorded Thursday, June 14th announcing and requesting members and friends to bring water for our Navajo Nation water project you began bringing it.  The first to arrive was Sis. Shelby Baker, soon followed by many, many more. 

In approximately 10 days you gave more than 220 cases of water totaling over seven thousand bottles of water.  The water will be transported to the Navajo Nation within 48 hours of the writing of this letter.  Thank you.  

In addition to the water project we have also been blessed in our desire to help feed the homeless in metropolitan Phoenix and the city of Mesa during COVID-19 through a partnership with the Phoenix Rescue Mission and their “Hope Coach”.  Our contribution of $1,000.00 helps to feed the homeless through a mobile service that meets the homeless where they are and gives food and water.   

Additional projects we are working on include:  1.  Reviving our community garden project at the church.  2.  Participating again with ABCS (Arizona Baptist Children’s Services) in our annual Baby Bottle Campaign.  This is a ministry that sees to the needs of infants and children in foster care and beyond.  3.  Encouraging the faculty, staff and students at Lindberg Elementary School by encouraging certified and non-certified faculty and staff and supporting students in keeping with direction from the Principal.  

With respect to opening once again for in-person worship we have heard from people at the international, national, state and city levels.  That said, as followers of Christ we are looking for news from another network.  And that  network is heaven … we want to hear from God.  
Please note the following list of things we will observe upon return to in-person worship.  Note, this list is not exhaustive.  Changes to the list will be made as information becomes available and we follow The LORD’s lead in prayer.  That said please note the following:

• We will open as Pastor Fort is led by The Holy Spirit.
• I and our leadership team will pray, meet and seek to receive wise counsel on the matter from knowledgeable, qualified professionals connected to COVID-19.
• Everyone is asked to read and observe the signs placed at the entry (west facing) side of the church prior to entering the church building.
• We will continue to practice social distancing and safety rules at the church.
• At the writing of this letter we currently have touchless toilets and faucets in the lobby restrooms, multiple hand sanitizers in the lobby, children’s rooms and administration offices. 
• In the next several days we will be installing touchless hand sanitizers in the children’s rooms, administration office and restrooms.  
• Hand sanitizers will also be added to the restroom behind the stage, the youth room and warming kitchen.  
• Gloves in various sizes are provided at the front door.
• Everyone is asked to wear provide and wear their mask in the church.  Note:  TWC custom masks shown on facebook are available for individual purchase online by visiting:  www.reetees.com, scroll down to the bottom of the homepage and select they color and style of your choice.  Beautiful, custom masks are also available from a local source.  Connection to that resource is available by contacting Dr. Dawn Schwary via Sis. Barrow at the church office or by contacting Dr. Dawn directly.  
• No home-going celebration, repast services or church-wide community events will be held at the church until a vaccine for COVID-19 is in place or it is safe to do so.  The church will however do our best to support and help bereaving families with any and all funeral and repast services. 
• Unless otherwise noted children’s church, children and youth Sunday School will not be in effect upon our initial return to in-person worship.  Reasons for this include but are not limited to prioritizing the safety and security of our children in the three children’s rooms and youth (Koinonia room).  
• Upon our initial return to in-person worship the Grace and Mercy rooms will be available to parents to see to their children on a single family or small approved small group setting.  
• The Hope room will be available to nursing mothers.  The Hope room already equipped with privacy glass (or one-way glass for nursing mom’s when the light is turned on) and a speaker with wall mounted volume control that allow mom’s to watch and listen to worship.  The Hope room will also be equipped with comfortable chairs for mom’s to sit in and see to their children.  

Church family, during the COVID-19 season we are committed to providing worship, bible studies, training and more by way of social media.  

The following is a current list of Spiritual growth and development opportunities available at TWC throughout the week:  

• Sunday morning worship at 8:00am and 10:30am via the church website, YouTube and Facebook page.  
• Sunday School classes, 9:30am to 10:20am via Zoom.

• Tuesday evening bible study via Zoom and/or the church website, Facebook and YouTube page.

person by dropping your gift off at the church Monday through Thursday from 9:00am to 2:00pm Monday through Thursday.

The most important principle is that all members feel safe. It’s important that every member makes decisions based on individual situations and comfort levels. The information below is based upon the most recent available data as of March 18, 2020.

Practice Good Hygiene:
We can all do our part in maintaining a healthy community and practicing good hygiene is key to protecting yourself and others against infection:

• Wash your hands frequently – the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states to wet, apply soap, scrub for at least 20 seconds, rinse and dry.
• Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
• Get a flu shot, there’s still time.
• Stay at home when you are sick – it allows for a quicker recovery while not infecting others. Telehealth may be an option.
• Social distancing is recommended for all ages to slow the spread of the virus, protect the health care system, and help protect vulnerable older adults. Social distancing is defined by the CDC as being at least six feet from other individuals.
• Older adults should maintain adequate supplies of nonperishable foods and at least a 30 days supply of necessary medications, take precautions to keep space between themselves and others, stay away from those who are sick, avoid crowds as much as possible, avoid cruse travel and nonessential air travel and stay home as much as possible to further reduce the risk of being exposed.

Globally:

• Approximately 170,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been reported, including an estimated 7,000 deaths in approximately 150 countries
• On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic
• Based on data from China, older adults, particularly those with serious underlying health conditions, are at higher risk for severe COVID-19-associated illness and death than are younger persons
• Majority of reported COVID-19 cases in China were mild (81%), approximately 80% of deaths occurred among adults age 60 years or older
• Only 1 death occurred in a person aged 19 years or younger

United States:

• As of March 16, 2020, a total of 4,226 COVID-19 cases in the US had been reported to CDC, with multiple cases reported among older adults living in long-term care facilities
• Overall, 31% of cases, 45% of hospitalizations, 53% of ICU admissions, and 80% of deaths associated with COVID-19 were among adults aged 65 years and older with the highest percentage of sever outcomes among persons aged 85 years and older
• Reports in the US have been increasing to 500 or more cases per day beginning March 14
• Only 5% of cases occurred in persons aged 0-19 years

RE:       OUR TEMPORARY WORSHIP AND MINISTRY SCHEDULE THROUGH THE COVID-19
 
Greetings in the name of God The Father, God The Son and God The Holy Spirit.  “Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prospers”.  3rd John verse 2. 
 
Brothers and sisters, the purpose of this letter is to share with you in print we are sharing via word of mouth, phone call and social media.  Our goal is to use every means necessary to ensure that every household receives the same message with respect to how we are functioning and flowing in ministry in light of COVID-19 also known as the Corona Virus.
 
According to news reports this virus is spreading around the world.  Just this week it has been reported that every state the United States now has at least one person that has tested positive for this virus.  In addition recommendations have been made by local, state and national politicians that no gatherings of 10 or more people take place as attempts are made to combat the virus.  
 
To this end, after conversation and counsel with our leadership team and most importantly prayer to God our Father the following decisions and have been made:
 
∙       All regularly scheduled weekly church activities and special events at the church are canceled until further notice.
 
∙       All Sunday morning worship services, Sunday School and special meetings are canceled until further notice.  
 
∙       Beginning Sunday, March 22nd we will have one ONLINE WORSHIP at 9:00am.  This worship service will be provided via our new church website at:  www.wearethewordchurch.com,  our new church app and our church Facebook page by searching: The Word Church AZ.  I am asking every member of TWC to stay home and stay safe and please JOIN ME LIVE ONLINE each Sunday morning at 9:00am.  Our worship service will be timely with a focus on worship that points to God and gospel preaching by Pastor Fort.  The only persons joining me at the church each week will be members of our band, praise team, guest Psalmists or musicians, assigned associate ministers, deacons, trustees and members of our security team.  The only other persons that should arrive on-site are those who need or desire to physically bring their tithe and offering to the church.  Each of you will be greeted in the parking lot with a smile by a member of our security, trustee and/or ministerial staff.  They will receive your gift and return it to the church.
 
∙       Beginning Tuesday, March 24th at 7:00pm and Wednesday, Marc 25th at 12:00pm I will lead bible study LIVE online via our church Facebook page.  Our bible study subject will be announced this Sunday morning at the 9:00am worship service.  
∙       Pastoral counseling will be offered by Pastor Fort via telephone and in person if all health conditions and guidelines connected to the World Health Organization, the CDC and our own church guidelines are met where the safety and health of our church family are prioritized.  
 
∙       We are excited to share a special outreach ministry targeting our senior members, age 65 years and above.  The TWC COVID Task Force want to be sure every senior has what you need by way of food and medication.  To this end we are offering the pickup and delivery of groceries and medication of local grocery stores and pharmacy locations for you.  For more information on this ministry contact trustee LaTany Davis.

One of the most creative ways I have heard of to study Gods Word in a group came from one of our members who shared  how a group of co-workers and friends connected via multiple Face-Time Messaging connections and from their various locations each took a verse of the bible and discussed it.  Wow!  What a creative way to study Gods word virtually these days.  Keep in touch with us and let us know just how God is blessing your personal study time. 
 
As God graces us to go through this time we will utilize various ways to connect, grow and build a deeper community and church family.  Those ways include:  telephone calls, text messaging, our church website (www.wearethewordchurch.com), our church church app, facebook page and our new messaging system which will work exclusively through our church app and launch the week of March 29th, 2020.
 
With our new messaging app I have asked every ministry leader to utilize this service exclusively for the creation and maintenance of all church related text messaging.  This in house messaging system liberates our ministry leaders from using their personal phones while allowing our church to manage each group.
